Drug Related Deaths:  Anticipating, Preventing and Responding


This 1 day course looks at how workers and organisations can assess local trends, establish strategies to reduce deaths, and work with users and other services to achieve this reduction.


Appropriate for: Drugs Workers, hospital staff and paramedics, police, service managers, frontline staff and peer-educators: previous drugs training will be required


Objectives: 



  • Understand what is a “drug-related death.

  • Be able to differentiate between immediate, medium term and long-term deaths

  • Understand how key substances can cause deaths,

  • Be aware of high risk groups and symptoms, and warning signs

  • Understand the role of supervised consumption in methadone prescribing

  • Have explored strategies in working with users and partner agencies

  • Familiar with national strategy and key documents

  • Be able to develop strategy to assess local trends

  • Understand key life saving messages to deliver to users, families and peers


This course is delivered by KFx and is FREE to attend.  Lunch and refreshments provided.
