Responding to Homelessness and Street Activity
This course has been developed in partnership to support people who work on the streets in the city centre to gain understanding, skills and resources to enable safe engagement with people experiencing multiple needs and for signposting to services for support. This learning partnership involves Expert Citizens C.I.C., VOICES, Staffordshire University, My Community Matters and CDAS.
Aims:
- To deliver myth busting facts and information to reduce stigma and to raise awareness of difficulties faced by people experiencing multiple needs
- To enhance understanding of homelessness and people experiencing multiple needs
- To explain an asset based approach to engaging with people who are involved in street activity
- To provide examples of what works well in engaging with people on the streets
- To provide guidance and information that will support a positive approach and enable signposting to appropriate services
- To offer optional Naloxone training*
*Naloxone blocks or reverses the effects of opioid medication, including extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, or loss of consciousness. An opioid is sometimes called a narcotic. Naloxone is used to treat a opiate/narcotic overdose in an emergency situation.
